The town lies between the River Ij, north, and the banks of the Amstel River, southeast. It was founded in the 12th century as a small fishing village. However, today it is the country's largest city and a major financial and cultural center of international renown. The historic city center was built largely in the seventeenth century and is today one of the largest historical centers in Europe. Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands with regard to business and finance.

La ciudad está situada entre la bahía del Ij, al norte, y a las orillas del río Amstel, al sureste. Fue fundada en el siglo XII como un pequeño pueblo pesquero. Sin embargo, en la actualidad es la ciudad más grande del país y un gran centro financiero y cultural de proyección internacional.
El centro histórico de la ciudad fue construido en gran parte en el siglo XVII y es hoy en día uno de los centros históricos más grandes de Europa.
Ámsterdam es la capital de los Países Bajos con respecto a los negocios y las finanzas.

Created in 1638, the Hortus Botanicus in Amsterdam is one of the oldest botanical gardens in Europe. Its plants were used for years for medical studies.

Creado en el año 1638, el Hortus Botánicus de Ámsterdam es uno de los jardines botánicos más antiguos de Europa. Sus plantas fueron utilizadas durante años para estudios médicos.

The main reason why Amsterdam is where I like to would go is because it is a beautiful city with wonderful places to visit. It is a very large city and cheerful. I like its culture, and because it has many very nice places to visit. It is a very attractive by the smallness of its buildings and city streets. Another reason why I love Amsterdam is Anne Frank's House, which I would like to visit. Amsterdam always caught my attention and it is a city to where I hope to go.

La razón por la que Ámsterdam es el lugar donde querría ir es porque es una ciudad muy bonita con sitios maravillosos que visitar y sus alrededores. Es una ciudad alegre y muy grande. Me gusta la cultura, y porque tiene muchos sitios muy bonitos que visitar. Es una ciudad muy atractiva por la pequeñez de sus edificios y sus calles. Y otra razón que me gusta mucho es porque en Ámsterdam se encuentra la casa de Ana Frank, la cual me haría mucha ilusión visitar. Ámsterdam siempre me ha llamado la atención y es una ciudad a la que espero ir.
