El vestido, palabra proveniente del latín vestitus, puede servir para designar un traje de mujer. Si nos atenemos a una definición más estricta, un vestido se compone concretamente de una falda y cuerpo en una misma pieza y tela. Hasta los años 60 del siglo XX será considerado como un elemento clásico de la moda femenina, siendo desde entonces un elemento menos frecuente en su uso, relegado en ocasiones para celebraciones especiales.

el siglo XIX , crinolina

Hacia los años 50 aparece la crinolina, unas enaguas a las que se les añadían aros de acero para hacerlas más rígidas. Esta moda se popularizó en España, Francia, Inglaterra y Estados Unidos. Como el volumen de la prenda no permitía usar abrigos, se usaban capas y grandes chales.
Con el tiempo,el vuelo de las faldas se concentraba hacia atrás de forma que se sostenía con un pequeño cojín sujeto a la enagua.
