Mother's Day / Dia de la Madre

Es una celebración en honor a las madres, a los lazos maternos, y su influencia en la sociedad. El Día de la Madre 2016 se celebra el 1 de mayo en España aunque en muchos lugares del mundo se festeja en diferentes días, con mayor frecuencia en los meses de marzo o mayo. Esta festividad no se relaciona con las muchas celebraciones de las madres y la maternidad que se han producido en todo el mundo durante miles de años, como el culto griego a Cibeles, el festival romano de Hilaria, o la celebración dominical de la maternidad cristiana. A pesar de ello, en muchos países este día está relacionado con las tradiciones más antiguas.

It is a celebration in honor to the mothers, to the mother bows, and her influence in society. Mother's Day 2016 is celebrated on May 1 in Spain though in many places in the world it is celebrated on the different days, over all in March or May. This festivity does not relate to many celebrations of the mothers and the maternity that happened in the whole world during thousands of years, since Classical Antiquity.

Se honra a las madres españolas en dicha fecha porque está asociado a la Virgen María, por ser este mes dedicado a la madre de Jesús.
En España es un día muy especial en donde todos los hijos honran a sus madres, es tradición realizar obsequios como señal del cariño y amor, aunque no es necesario un regalo costoso, ya que con el hecho de demostrar nuestro cariño con muchos besos y abrazos, para nuestra madre bastará.

One honors the Spanish mothers in the above mentioned date because it is associated with the Virgin Mary, for being this month dedicated to the mother of Jesus. In Spain it is a very special day when all children honor their mothers, it is a tradition to give gifts as sign of the fondness and love, though a costly gift is not necessary, since demonstrating our love with many hugs and kisses will be enough for them.

¿Qué le podéis regalar a vuestra madre?
Hay muchas opciones y regales lo que regales siempre le va a gustar, porque es algo que le regalas con mucho cariño y a ella siempre le gustara, sea comprado o un detalle hecho por ti.

Le puedes regalar flores, o algún bote con las chucherías que le gusten con un lazito y una cartelito pequeño que ponga: para endulzar esos momentos amargos. Una tazita que ponga algo de las madres, o incluso comprar una taza y decorarla tu mismo con rotuladores para tazas y que no se borre ese dibujo; algún vestido que has visto que le gusta, unos pendientes. Una foto de algún momento especial que hayáis pasado juntas o en familia o ya algo un poco más caro que podéis regalar entre todos los miembros de la familia una escapada de fin de semana a algún lugar que siempre haya querido ir.

What can you give to your mother?
There are many options and whatever you give, it is always going to please her, for that it is something that you give her with love and she will always like it, be it bought or a detail made by you. You can give her flowers, or any box of the sweets that she likes with a bow and one small note with: To sweeten these bitter moments. A little cup with a saying about mothers, or even buy a cup and decorate it yourself her with markers for cups so that the drawing will not fade away; some dressed that you have seen that she likes; a pair of earrings. A photo of some special moment that you spent together or in family or something a bit more expensive that all the members of the family can such as a weekend in some place where she has always wanted to go.

An important celebration: Mother's Day / Una celebración importante: El Día de la Madre

Todo comenzó en la antigua Grecia, cuando los griegos rendían tributo a Rhea, para ellos una diosa y madre de otros dioses. Con el paso del tiempo, los cristianos transformaron esta fiesta en un tributo que honoraba a la Virgen María.

El tiempo ha ido transcurriendo y la celebración del Día de la Madre ha variado según las costumbres de cada país. Por ejemplo, en varios países se celebra el segundo domingo del mes de mayo, en otros como Panamá, se celebra el día 8 de diciembre.

Cada país también tiene orígenes distintos sobre cómo se inició la celebración, como es el caso de EEUU, donde se originó por la sugerencia que realizó Julia Ward Howe, responsable del Himno de batalla de la República en 1872. Julia solicitó conmemorar esta fecha y honrar a la paz. Lo importante es que a pesar de tener distintos orígenes, todas las conmemoraciones desembocan en un mismo propósito, homenajear a las madres.

Una madre representa el comienzo de la vida, la protección, la esperanza y la alegría, ser madre es algo tan valioso, tan importante, tan hermoso y tan necesario que debe ser una fiesta ensalzada al máximo exponente, otorgándole la importancia que se merece.

Y en este día se les suele dar un detalle o regalo a las madres como muestra de cariño y de amor hacia ellas ya que es su día ya que se tienen que sentir muy queridas por sus hijos, maridos, familia etc. o sino simplemente con una buen abrazo y una par de besos también estaría igual de bien.

It all began in ancient Greece, when the Greeks paid tribute to Rhea, for them a goddess and mother of gods. Over time, Christians transformed this party honored a tribute to the Virgin Mary.

Time has been lapsing and the celebration of Mother's Day has varied according to the customs of each country. For example, in several countries the second Sunday of May, in others such as Panama, held on December 8 is celebrated.
Each country also has different origins on how the celebration began, as is the case of the US, where it originated at the suggestion made by Julia Ward Howe, head of The Battle Hymn of the Republic in 1872. Julia asked commemorate this day and honor peace. The important thing is that despite having different backgrounds, all commemorations end in the same way, to pay tribute to mothers.
 
A mother represents the beginning of life, protection, hope and joy, being a mother is something so valuable, so important, so beautiful and so it must be a celebration , giving it the importance it deserves.

And on this day a gift is often given to mothers as a sign of affection and love as it is their day as they have to feel very much loved by their children, husbands, and family;  or else simply a good hug and a couple of kisses would also be equally well.
